Elk Valley Nordic Centre

This non-profit society manages over 20 km of nordic trails groomed for classic and skate winter skiing in two areas managed by the club. One area is in town at the Fernie Golf Course featuring 12 km of trails on fairly mellow terrain with wide open spaces. There are also more than 10 km of trails at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre next to Mount Fernie Provincial Park. To reach the Elk Valley Nordic Centre, go west from Fernie on Highway 3. At 3 km from the bridge, turn right at the Island Lake Lodge sign. Follow the road for 0.9 km to the Mt. Fernie Provincial Park sign. Turn left into the overflow parking lot at 0.2 km. The hilly terrain and isolated nature of the trails makes this a very exciting place to ski. The trails link up with the multi-use trails at Fernie Alpine Resort. Trail maps are posted at the kiosks located at the entrances to the trails. Please NO DOGS ON THE TRAILS at any time. The Elk Valley Nordic Centre Warming Hut is located at (49.485633 N, 115.090980 W).

As you are travelling through glacier-fed rivers and lakes and going where it seems no boat has gone before, we hope to see wildlife among the river banks. In addition to an information-packed narrative, guides will point out glaciers and many waterfalls toppling from the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Your point of departure is conveniently located just north of Blue River off of Yellowed Highway #5, halfway between Jasper and Kamloops, as well as halfway between Mt. Robson and Wells Grey Park. Housed in a building inspired by the architecture of the first Steveston tram station, Tram Car 1220 now rests on its original rail tracks. Nicknamed the Sockeye Special, the interurban tram service carried workers from Vancouver to Steveston to work in the canneries, from 1905 to 1958.
