Generous Lands

Deep lakes, volcanic soils, and fertile valleys have sustained life for generations. Nurtured first through Indigenous stewardship and carried forward by a diverse community of growers—multigenerational farmers, winemakers, and newcomers—the valleys support more than 200 vineyards, orchards, lavender fields, honey producers, specialty crops, and wild foods. Growing is both a livelihood and a legacy.

A Gathering Place

Rooted in respect and grounded in First Nations leadership, this is where the Seven Generations Pledge took shape—a promise to care for today with tomorrow in mind. Everyone gathers with purpose, sharing meals, teachings and stories that honour where they’ve been and where they’re going.

Practical Tips

  • Valleys & Vineyards is for travellers who want to slow down and savour, sharing a meal made with ingredients grown nearby, lingering over a glass of wine, houseboating with friends, or discovering the stories of these places. Fertile valleys spill into clear waters, where orchards, vineyards, and farms produce vintages and flavours as layered as the surrounding hills. From sunlit patios to seasonal festivals, this is a place where good food, warm company, and a beach are never far away.
  • Enjoy a relaxed pace in valleys where rich, volcanic soil and abundant sunshine sustain all. Wineries, markets, and restaurants share flavours tied to the land, while trails and waterways invite unhurried exploration. This is Canada's warmest region, a unique landscape where semi-arid desert, lakes, and vineyards meet on lands that have been stewarded by First Nations for millennia and are now celebrated by all who live there.
  • Summer brings a flurry of visitors, so spring and fall are ideal, with vineyard releases, harvest celebrations, and food- and drink-focused events. These seasons bring warm, golden days perfect for cycling through vineyards, strolling through markets, or swimming in clear, inviting lakes. Year-round, the land stays stunning, the tastes keep changing, and a creative spirit is always on display.
  • Pick a community and explore from there, or check out multiple. Drive winding roads that follow the water’s edge, bike or hike along decommissioned rail lines over historic wooden trestles, or paddle a kayak or SUP across calm lakes. Balance active days with museum and gallery stops, beach days, guided winery tours, local tasting rooms, and farm-to-table eateries.
