At 8+ million acres, it is 5 times the size of Banff National Park and represents one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. With an unmatched biological output of 500 tons per acre, it's 40 percent greater than tropical rain forests.

Boaters mooring at the government dock are welcome to stroll the grounds, garden, trails, and meet the world renowned wharfinger. We are located on Denny Island, adjacent to the Heiltsuk Nation community of Bella Bella, or Waglisla, in Heiltsuk territory on the outer central coast of B.C. (see Getting Here). This is part of what is sometimes called the Great Bear Rainforest, the largest remaining tract of intact temperate rainforest in the world. It is home to grizzly bears, grey wolves, humpback and orca whales, giant conifers, every species of wild Pacific salmon, and much more.
