Elk Valley Nordic Centre
This non-profit society manages over 20 km of nordic trails groomed for classic and skate winter skiing in two areas managed by the club. One area is in town at the Fernie Golf Course featuring 12 km of trails on fairly mellow terrain with wide open spaces. There are also more than 10 km of trails at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre next to Mount Fernie Provincial Park. To reach the Elk Valley Nordic Centre, go west from Fernie on Highway 3. At 3 km from the bridge, turn right at the Island Lake Lodge sign. Follow the road for 0.9 km to the Mt. Fernie Provincial Park sign. Turn left into the overflow parking lot at 0.2 km. The hilly terrain and isolated nature of the trails makes this a very exciting place to ski. The trails link up with the multi-use trails at Fernie Alpine Resort. Trail maps are posted at the kiosks located at the entrances to the trails. Please NO DOGS ON THE TRAILS at any time. The Elk Valley Nordic Centre Warming Hut is located at (49.485633 N, 115.090980 W).

Quite often we will be followed by nosy seals, playful river otters and sometimes even by an impressive sea lion. With a bit of luck we could encounter a pod of Killer Whales or even a Humpback Whale in Desolation Sound or Salish Sea. Throughout the seasons many bird species choose this area to forage or breed. Frequent sightings of bald eagles, various ducks and shore-birds are not uncommon. We focus on SMALL GROUPS and personal attention. The Gallery at Queen’s Park
The Gallery at Queens Park is a community art gallery program that has provided a venue for emerging and established artists to showcase their work since 1985. Over the year, 12 exhibitions are presented in two-dimensional and three-dimensional mediums such as painting, photography, pottery, wood carving, bronze statues, and more. Artists are provided exhibition space free of charge and share their work with the community of New Westminster. Temporarily closed until August 31, 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Administration is currently taking appointments on a limited basis.
