Strathcona Provincial Park, designated in 1911, is the oldest provincial park in British Columbia. Located almost in the centre of Vancouver Island, Strathcona park is a rugged mountain wilderness comprising more than 250,000 hectares. Mountain peaks some perpetually mantled with snow dominate the park. Lakes and alpine tarns dot a landscape laced with rivers, creeks and streams. To see and enjoy much of the scenic splendour means lacing up your hiking boots to backpack through the dense forests, stunning sub-alpine and alpine regions. While the high mountain peaks and deep shaded valleys of Strathcona Park are dramatic, it is easy to forget that beneath your feet lays a history stretching back 380 million years. Two areas Buttle Lake and vicinity and Forbidden Plateau offer a variety of visitor-oriented developments. The rest of the park is largely undeveloped and appeals primarily to people seeking wilderness surroundings.
Sleigh Rides Through Winter Wonderland I grew up on a farm learning the value of the horse. In my early years I had a team of ponies that took kids out toboggans, which eventually led my teams and I to do Christmas Rides in town. When not doing sleigh rides, I am working my teams on the farm doing everything from chores, to working the fields. All of my years with the horses, has led me to be able to offer sleigh rides at Big White during the winter months.

Feed the seals, grab some lunch from Barb's Fish and Chips, check out the funky float homes, go for a whale-watching or kayak adventure with Eagle Wing or Kelp Reef, and pick up an ice cream cone from Jackson's on the way back into town! The Poolside Suite, which is on the lower floor of the main house, where we live, is very spacious and has its own private entrance, patio, and secluded terrace leading to the pool area. The pool area is shared with the Carriage House, also listed on this site number 151470 and occasionally no more than 2 Airstream guests. We have a seasonally heated saltwater pool and lawned area with a badminton/volleyball net, both shared with the Carriage House also listed on this site. The price is based on number of guests. The suite has one queen bedroom, day bed for 2nd guest situated in a separate room and 2nd bedroom has two twin beds available to 3rd and 4th. Should the second guest wish to use the second bedroom then we do charge extra, but with our day bed in a separate room, it should not be necessary. The kitchen has a microwave, countertop convection oven, two-plate hob, breakfast bar, fridge and freezer, crockery, coffee maker, and kettle, where you can enjoy preparing a meal whilst keeping your eye on your little ones, watching TV or socializing with your accompanying guests. The pool table is an extra bonus available to those guests with no accompanying children.We have a barbecue on the private patio, pictures of all can be viewed under photos. I adore gardening so there is an abundance of hanging baskets and climbing plants on the terrace to be enjoyed including grapevines. We welcome children of all ages, however, for longer stays, for large families or those with several very young children we recommend our 2-bedroomed Carriage Houser also advertised on this site, which has a full kitchen, dishwasher, washer-dryer, and private gardens.For the security of all our guests, we only allow registered guests onto the property so rest assured there will always be a spot for you by the pool.Tourist License / Licencia de turismo N °: 4392
