Adjacent to the Lillooet River, in the Pemberton Volcanic Belt, you will find Tsek Hot Springs and the sacred location of the In-SHUCK-ch and Státimc people (nkkwtsa) of British Columbia. The nkkwtsa established a permanent village of (s7)ístken (pit houses) and plank houses along the banks of the Lillooet River, and a series of trails through the nearby forests to hunting grounds and neighbouring villages. The mineral hot springs at Tsek provided our ancestors with physical and spiritual wellness, while the loose, sandy nature of the soil made the cedar tree roots grow long and straight. Tseks hot and cold springs became the most important spiritual site in the lower Lillooet River Valley. It is said that the cool spring served as a healing pool where the Elder mothers trained men to be chiefs, watchmen, and other important positions in the In-SHUCK-ch Nation. Pronounced chick, Tsek Hot Springs (also known as Skookumchuck Hot Springs and St. Agnes Well Hot Springs) has continuously been occupied and utilized by the Státimc people as a location to heal and cleanse the body and spirit centuries before Europeans arrived along our shores.
The Daajing Giids Visitor Center is located on the waterfront with gorgeous ocean views. We are an excellent local source of information when visiting Haida Gwaii. Inside the longhouse inspired building you will find engaging, resourceful staff, artisan galleries, a gift shop as well as useful interpretive materials. Head outside to our garden and picnic area to relax and take in the fresh air. We also have a large day parking area for RVs and clean indoor public restrooms. We are closed seasonally from December until mid-April. We will be intermittently checking our email; and voicemail messages throughout this time. Stay tuned for our reopening date in Spring!
Experience the raw power and beauty of the world-famous Skookumchuck Narrows (Sechelt Rapids). Ride into the heart of the action in the same vessel trusted by the Canadian Coast guard for a truly one-of-a-kind adventure. So much more than a quick trip in and out of the rapids. We go beyond Skookumchuck Narrows to navigate Seal Rock, Hidden Lagoon, East Point Island, and to view ancient Indigenous paintings. Unlike other tours, ours aim to take you where the locals go for a full hour on the water. Not all touring boats are able to safely get this close to The Skook. The new location offers plenty of nearby parking, larger, less crowded laneways to walk, convenient public washrooms and a wonderful variety of local and regional growers, producers, artists, musicians and creators that consist of many of our old favourites along with loads of new, exciting vendors. All of this is still just steps away from beautiful downtown Sidney and the many shops, restaurants and waterfront walkway. The Famers Market features growers, producers and creators who "make, bake and grow" their products. "We believe that the best way to appreciate the craftsmanship, artistry, and heritage of winemaking is to share wine with others." Wine tasting doesn't have to be a pretentious endeavour. To really appreciate the wine in your glass, you simply need to enjoy it. Our aim in every experience is for hosts and guests to gain a new appreciation for a variety of wines, while sharing some smiles along the way. With that in mind, VinoValet was created in 2023, with the goal of bringing the enjoyment and appreciation of wine to people in the comfort of their homes.
