Great Bear Lodge offers grizzly bear tours from May to October at a floating lodge in the Great Bear Rainforest. With no other operators in the river system and a maximum of 18 guests, people can feel truly immersed in nature. Tours start with a spectacular seaplane flight from Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island, and include accommodation, wilderness-gourmet food and bear viewing. The floating lodge is situated at an outstanding wildlife viewing location, where an ocean fjord meets a productive salmon river. The 9 bedrooms all have ensuite bathrooms, and the natural wood decks surrounding the lodge are a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the beauty of the scenery. This seasonal government-run campground on the ocean offers affordable RV and tent camping in nature with fabulous panoramic seascape views. It features a long sandy beach, bird watching, nature events, a variety of walking trails, including a user-friendly loop trail. It is close to the ferry, airport, downtown Victoria and the Lochside Regional Trail. The campground has 18 beach front RV sites, 5 treed tent trailer sites and 24 treed tent sites, and all campsites are self-contained. The middle and largest building on the property is a 100 years old, with TONS of history, and will soon to be a restaurant, a bar and have 8 upper suites/rooms (opening approx. May 2024). The building has 2 large decks overlooking the channel to enjoy, one being the FLORA's restaurant and bar, and 4 water view rooms are available as well.
