Wild Bear Lodge is a small private wilderness lodge about halfway between Vancouver and Calgary. We are located in the worlds only inland temperate rainforest amid mountains, old-growth trees, and fast-flowing rivers. We believe we offer some of the most exciting and natural bear-viewing, nature and wilderness holidays in north America, against a backdrop of some of western Canadas most dramatic terrain.

Adventure Ready - Our crosstrek vehicles are fully outfitted for hassle-free adventure. Pack your sleeping bags, pillows, groceries, bucket list, and adventurous selves and we have the rest covered! Connect your smartphone to apple carplay or android auto and hit the road with ease… and a map! The rooftop tents comfortably sleep two adults, and there are storage options to bring an extra tent so a few more friends or kids can tag along. Enjoy interior lighting for late-night reading, a solar power bank to keep your phone charged, power station to charge your batteries between stops and a 3” foam mattress. Plus, we include two headlamps to make your way around safely after dusk. Full rear hatch kitchen with electric cooler and a two burner stove, sink, power station, faucet and prep area Pop up the hatch and you’ll find a functional kitchen with all of the fixings. This includes an electric cooler/freezer combo (no ice needed!), sink, and two-burner stove with propane, plus all the cookware, utensils, and cutlery down to a corkscrew and can opener that you’ll need while exploring. A jackery 500 power station fuels the fridge… this has enough juice to keep it cold for two days. If you’re putting some clicks on the crosstrek in between, it will charge as you drive and last much longer, and you can charge anything else that needs a boost in the meantime.

Sea Edge Beachside Hotel is an excellent choice for travellers visiting Parksville, offering a family-friendly environment alongside many helpful amenities designed to enhance your stay. Note, the Metzger Collection is TEMPORARILY CLOSED until September 2026. Located in the Resource Centre building on the Columbia Bible College campus, the Metzger Collection is a museum of replicas of artifacts and artwork across the scope of human history and with a particular focus in biblical history. In addition to our regular hours on Wednesdays the Metzger Collection is also Open-on-Demand (see website for details)

B & B is in the Lake Kathlyn Area, beside Huds.Bay Mount. We are in a wildlife area right beside the Silvern Lake Trail with views to the Kathlyn Glacier, Twin Falls. The Trail is ideal for hiking a. biking in the summer and snowmobiling/X-Country in the winter. After that you can relax in our Outdoor Hot-Tub with glacierview. This non-profit society manages over 20 km of nordic trails groomed for classic and skate winter skiing in two areas managed by the club. One area is in town at the Fernie Golf Course featuring 12 km of trails on fairly mellow terrain with wide open spaces. There are also more than 10 km of trails at the Elk Valley Nordic Centre next to Mount Fernie Provincial Park. To reach the Elk Valley Nordic Centre, go west from Fernie on Highway 3. At 3 km from the bridge, turn right at the Island Lake Lodge sign. Follow the road for 0.9 km to the Mt. Fernie Provincial Park sign. Turn left into the overflow parking lot at 0.2 km. The hilly terrain and isolated nature of the trails makes this a very exciting place to ski. The trails link up with the multi-use trails at Fernie Alpine Resort. Trail maps are posted at the kiosks located at the entrances to the trails. Please NO DOGS ON THE TRAILS at any time. The Elk Valley Nordic Centre Warming Hut is located at (49.485633 N, 115.090980 W).
