River Valley Ranch lies in an idyllic valley with fertile fields and the Kootenay River running though it. River Valley Ranch is an old world mixed farm applying bio-dynamic farming practices to the individual and the whole. The farm and household are off-grid and run on alternative energy. Our family has been farming on this lovely part of the Oldfield valley since the late 1950's; first in strawberries, and then loganberries for the island wineries in the mid 1960's to 70's. We planted our vines in 2003 and opened our tasting room in 2012. Just 15 minutes north of Victoria near Butchart Gardens, we specialize in dry white wines and lively, lightly oaked reds. We grow Ortega - a signature grape for Vancouver Island, as well as Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir (we make a rose and a red from this grape), Millot and Foch, as well as our low alcohol "Splash". Bulkley Valley Brewery was created by Bikers, Skiers, Boarders, Fisherman, paddlers and people who really enjoy a good beer. Located in Smithers BC they realized that this small town had no "Apres" despite the fact that it was a natural wonderland. People had no place to gather, to tell stories, to see friends that they had not seen in awhile, to meet new friends. Most of all though Smithers had no Craft beer.
